Works as Compiled Script, Errors as Application....

Hello,

Well it’s been some months, but I’m back with a few questions and TIA to anyone who is able to help out. Here’s the problem: I’m in the process of creating a script which chooses, renames, and enters comments in a folder.

The script:

set b to (choose folder)
set temp to display dialog “TYPE NEW NAME:” default answer “NAME OF FOLDER”
set itemTyped to text returned of the result

set temp to display dialog “TYPE NEW NAME:” default answer “NAME OF FOLDER”
set CommentTyped to text returned of the result

tell application “Finder”
tell folder b
set {comment,name} to {CommentTyped,ItemTyped}

tell application “Script Editor”
activate–For testing purposes only. “Activate” to be deleted
end tell
end tell
end tell

Now, so far, so good. This script compiles on my machine (running OS/X .2.4) and will run fine as a compiled script. Hovever, when I save it as an Application, and try to run it, I get the following: “Could not run the script “ScriptNameEtc” because of a program error” and an edit button with the # -1440 above it. Now, when I click on this Edit button, I get another message: “Could not read the file because of a scripting-system (OSA) error.”

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Variable as the shade

well, i’m not sure what the error was. when i compiled mine, it worked fine. you can get a copy of my version of the app here
