I’m working in a lab environment and I would like to have the icons for all my mounted drives appear on the dock and not on the desktop - or - I would like to have all mounted drives appear only on the right. I’ve searched around a bit, but haven’t found much, any ideas?

As far as i know, the task of getting things mounted and not having them show on the desktop is more of a shell scripting problem. Check out man mount_afp. Once you’ve got the mounts, you could create a script to open a directory from it’s mount point, give it a disk icon, and stick it in the dock. Not really a standard interface, though.
