Stealing/disabling keystrokes from system

Hi!
I was wondering is there a way, now that the UI elements are scriptable, to steal keystrokes from system, with the intention of disabling some default apple provided shortcuts. Example being keyboard switching with cmd+space and maybe I could use the function keys of my PB without using the ‘fn’ key.

P.S. If anybody can point me to the documentation which describes the input system in OSX or If anybody knows an utility that can acheive the above.

Thanks!

QuickKeys?

What version of Mac OS X are you using? In Mac OS X 10.3, in the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane, there’s an option to “Use the F1-F12 keys for custom actions”. Enable this and it toggles having to hold the fn key for things like volume control, etc.
