I’m new here, and pretty new to AppleScript, but this thread is fascinating from my user viewpoint. From a user viewpoint that is. I run a writing competition for Wilson’s Tales, which has a requirement for exactly 100 words. In a previous life I was deeply familiar with the innards of different WP systems, so it was no surprise to find discrepancies of a couple of words coming from different systems. Manual counts and allowances for apostrophes and hyphenations have to be made.
And another interest is dialects, and accents, where omitted syllables are frequently indicated by an apostrophe, as in the example don’t being one word or two. Word counts are important in the world of writing. Sometimes you get paid by the word!
So this is just a thank you to the contributors from a user, and yes, I will be using the script to check on the Pages word and character count function. Or did anyone compare the result of the existing functionality to these long handed functions?
