writing invisible files under OS X

I was searching around in the macscripter archives and FAQs for how to create an invisible file and it mentioned that it was possible using Akua Sweets scripting additions…but that is unfortunately not available on OS X.
However on a hunch I tried just writing the file as “.text.txt”, and it works beautifully thanks to this simple visibility flag Apple uses on their files in OS X. Any file preceeded by “.” is invisible in the Finder.
I am sure some already knew that…but others might not…so there ya go. :)~
