Script Recording

I’ve used the “recording” feature in AppleScript ScriptEditor on Mac OS 9.x in the past . . . but don’t seem to be able to record anything in OS X.

Is there a trick or is this feature not implemented yet?

Recording is implemented, just VERY poorly supported by applications.

Recording support is dependent on application support to track your actions and relay them to the Script Editor.

We can only hope that developers have focussed on bringing their apps to Mac OS X first and they’ll enhance the AppleScript support over time, but I’m not holding my breath.

In the meantime it’s a matter of understanding the application’s dictionary and coding from scratch.

You should also know that the OS X Finder specifically does not yet support recording, as OS 9 did.

Hopefully, it will be reintroduced in the near future as I feel this is an important AppleScript teaching/learning tool. 8)

Thanks for the information . . . when even Apple’s own apps don’t support recording . . . I’m not holding my breath either
