Internet File Helpers under OSX

MS Internet Explorer 5.1 OSX seems to have problems in retaining its file helpers. Example: define the file helper for .wav files to be opened by QuickTime pluging, quit, relaunch IE → now this setting is lost.
Some research tells me that the internet config prefs (com.apple.internetconfig.plist) are being changed at the time IE quits.
Therefore, it should be possible to define file helpers on system level. Can that be done using terminal scripting?

Hi Eelco,
I don’t have OS X, so I can’t answer your question about using the
Terminal, but I can confirm that IE uses the Internet Preferences file to
store it’s preferences on pre-OS X systems (a bad habit in my opinion).
Good luck!
