this time I have a knotty problem, I think. My intension is, to add a Help Book to my AS applications.
Searching how to do this, I looked at the short discussion of PreTech, C. Smith and K. Bradley in “Adding Help Files”.
So I came to T. Kurita’s scripting addition “HelpBook.osasx” and tried to do as he wrote in his little documentation. But it works not realy.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem? (If it’s for interest, I will post the single steps I’ve done.)
Personally, I use iWeb, just to add some pizzaz, and then go through all the steps listed in the article above. Worked great on Tiger, have not done anything using Leopard yet.
As Craig Smith pointed out, Kevin Bradley’s article is a good place to start if you haven’t found anything simpler.
The only relatively steep part of the learning curve is learning a little bit of html. I used Kevin’s article to add Help document to my application and, trust me, it didn’t take long to put up a fairly pro-looking Help file. Of course, I had to wade through html but just a little bit really and only for features like font formatting, adding graphics, flowing text around them, and a few other useful features. It’s not that difficult I swear.
I have to come back to your offer of support.
I build a simple test project and did all the things I had to do according to the article of K. Bradley. But all I got is an empty Help Viewer. I don’t know why.
My I send this little project to you via e-mail? It seems to me the best way to talk about it.
I think you better send your codes directly to my email address which should be listed at scriptbuilders. If not, here it is: openart2001@yahoo.com or openart2001@gmail.com.
I haven’t received any message in my mailbox. Usually, it is forwarded directly by scriptbuilders to my yahoo email.
Unfortunately, the Help Document that I prepared for my application built in Xcode 2+ and Tiger doesn’t work anymore. Even the application itself, sans Help Document, doesn’t work anymore. The Help document is added to the Resource but that’s about it. It is never translated into the html format that the Help Viewer uses.
We may have to wait a while to let the dust settle to find out what features were changed and what were maintained. For sure, I can’t compile my application now under Xcode 3.0 - gives me all kinds of compiler error. Shucks!
If there are other gurus in this forum who can help us with this, we’d surely appreciate your help.
