Is it possible to write an AppleScript that will constantly query a folder, and some how notify another person via e-mail whenever a new file is added?

I plan to have an upload type area on a server, and whenever a file is added, I would like an e-mail sent to me notifying me of such, as opposed to me having to constantly checking that folder.
