Applescript in backgound

Is there any way to run an Applescript in backgound?
I have a script that has to run for hours and if I cannot set that script to run in the backgound it will steal the computer focus and I cannot use the computer while it is running.

I just want to make it run in the backgound, silently…
is there any way to do that?

Hi, thanks, but this will not work for my script as I cannot compile it as an application. It must run as SCPT.
