AS Indexing Illustrator 10 or CS files?

Hi Gang,

First time writer, long time reader.

I have a question about using AppleScript and Illustrator. I have very limited knowledge with AS, using it on my old OS9 machine with quark and filemaker. I am slowly learning to us it on the osX machine, but usually on my own time.

Anyway, my question is this…is there a way to index features (in different layers) in an illustrator file (we use 10 because of the legacy type issues with CS)?

An example…a street map of city. Would there be a way to take a layer that contains the street names, another layer that contains park names, another layer with points of interest type, etc, and have it reference that piece of type to coordinates in a grid layer and spit the information into either a delimited text file, an excel file, or even FileMaker?

We have a program created on a PC that can do it, but it only can work on files saved as Illustrator 8. The programers have given up trying to get it to work on 10 or CS, thus giving us a severe handicap.

So is it even possible to do what i’m asking? If so, how easy or difficult is it?

As I’ve mentioned, I have had very limited AS programming, and none with Illustrator. Any help, advice, comments, etc, is welcome!

Thanx!
