I was just curious if anyone had favorite book or cd or something for a novice to learn applescript.
Hi,
for the basics you can read AppleScript for absolute starters
or take a look at the tutorials on http://macscripter.net/
We have a books/resources section here: http://macscripter.net/books/
My two favorite texts are: http://macscripter.net/books/reviews/124_0_1_0_C/
and http://macscripter.net/books/reviews/63_0_1_0_C/
You will also find plenty of good beginning/intermediate/advanced articles on various topics here: http://macscripter.net/unscripted
As you can see, MacScripter.net is truly the central source for all things AppleScript.
My personal favorite is Adam Goldstein’s “Applescript: The Missing Manual,” part of David Pogue’s “Missing Manual” series.
Adam wrote this when he was 17 (he’s not much older now) and his writing style is amazing. Somehow he managed to write a fun, helpful book that covers the really important topics and also includes a bunch of scripts for scripting things like Address Book, iTunes, the Finder, and other programs.
As a veteran scripter of 10 years, even I learned stuff from his book. His analogies and examples are not only clear, but often funny.
If you’re strapped for cash, check your local library. My library system here in Independence, Missouri has a great collection of tech books and they are often not checked out. Add to that the fact that you can borrow from the extended library system as well, and you can get almost anything for no cost! Such a deal!
Have fun, and post a message here if you need help.
