Is it possible to make a script that will watch a certain area of the screen and tell me when an icon has changed?

In this case.
When one of the menu bar icons changes from one logo to another and then alert the user. And then alert again when the icon changes back.

Maybe.

Icons change because something else has changed. If we knew what changed to cause the icon to change, we could probably test for that. What kind of icon is it and how does it change?

Its a remote management icon.

when idle, the icon is a large pair of binoculars. when someone is observing it it changes to a small pair of binoculars with a screen frame around it.

Using ARD (Apple Remote Desktop)? VNC doesn’t do that and some time ago Timbuktu didn’t either, but I don’t own ARD.
