Check boxes not functioning

I have check boxes in an application I have made (only two checkboxes) and I want one of them to uncheck once the other has been checked. I would also like- if at all possible- to have the checked one unchecked on the loop of the application.

Browser: Firefox 3.0.1

everything you described is possible. But uncheck once the other has been checked is the classical purpose for a radio button
