This question could have appeared in any of the forums for sure. Anyway, it’s here and it’s still a relevant forum for the problem I want to bring out.
When in Script Editor and I select the “open dictionary…” menu item, a standard “choose your application” dialog comes up where you can browse and activate the dictionary of a particular application.
OK, well and good. The problem is the list shows just about everything that can be shown…even scripts and their multiple versions, that need not be there for all I care…or anyone care.
So, the question is: how can I clear all those useless entries to facilitate browsing for the application’s dictionary that I want?
Script Editor has a Library window (see in the Window menu) in which you can maintain a small collection of your most used dictionaries.
Alternatively, there’s my snappily-named OpenDictionaries scripts (I didn’t choose the title!) in the ScriptBuilders section of this site. One script offers a choice of dictionaries from the currently open scriptable applications, another concentrates on installed OSAXen, and a third covers the scriptable contents of the CoreServices folder.
I will download that one too and forget about the menu item in Script Editor.
Info for Mr Nigel Garvey - I downloaded your “Opendictionaries” script but could not open it as I gave up long ago on using StuffIt Expander. Do you have a copy of the script compressed in another format - .dmg, gzip, zip but not .sit? Possible to have a copy by email attachment if you have…or could make one?
