Code Collector for Applescripts, Anyone wanna build it?

So I looked at Code Collector Pro, and it has a little support for Applescript (need to install a bundle, but the syntax highlighting is funky). But the concept is nifty. The Code Collector Pro app (CCP) needs more work I believe, and this isn’t a flame against it, but suggestion or opportunity for someone to build this. I cannot make this yet, I’m only a Cocoa newbie right now.

Applescript Collector Pro: focussed on Applescript files

-has our standard iTunes like interface (groups on left, title/subject a top right, code view bottom right).
-can scan you hard drive or folder for scripts, all files ending with .scpt or .applescript or .app that can be parsed etc
-just like iTunes, only uses a reference to display the file. (CCP actually copies data into its own database.)
-has tags you can edit keywords for scripts (metadata keywords?)
-groups and smart groups, with ability (like CCP) to look into code/source to make groups
-maybe a way to do versions easily- can make a copy of a script and pop it open in Script Editor/Script Debugger right away, or open as Untitled in SE/SD
-would certainly have to have syntax coloring for compiled scripts (needs script parser? or just a fake-o one to reproduce compiled scripts in color without having to open Application X all the time?!)
-thus would be able to copy text out of a script but not edit a script
-could only make/save text files not compiled scripts, need to compile in SE/SD and then reimport saved .scpt file
-would need to itself be a little scriptable (or course)
-has a way to help you organize the files on your HD, like iTunes automatically groups artists, so you could move scripts around into folders on your HD from within Applescript Collector or whatever it’s called. point being once you make groups or smart groups maybe you want to physically organize your HD a little more after seeing what you have
-needs to be able to read all those files in the system that come pre-installed, maybe have them pre-tagged? (mail scripts ical scripts folder actions etc)
-ability to search MacScripter code exchange for files quickly and download them (if possible)
-can burn a CD of all selected files/groups (for backup purposes)
-tag and metadata editor has to be easy and quick to use, like a drawer on bottom or right side

If you make it, please let me know. You could privately email me. Even if I’m not in on the profits I want to be able to have a hand in its direction/features/design etc.

Ciao,
Chris

Hi SuperMacGuy,

I am using DEVONthink Pro to organize and search the large script collection in our company. It actually offers many of the options you mention in your post, so you just might download the demo and give it a try

I have an application that does many of these things already. It’s only been out a couple months. You can see it here:

 That’s fantastic. I will check that out soon! At work we are still on 10.4 but at home I’m on 10.5.

Chris

I’m glad you are excited about it, it’s a really good program. FYI: 10.4 support is coming any day now. Keep an eye out for the next update release!
