How do I tell System Evens to “listen” for a key combination to be pressed? I know an AppleScript has to be running, but without using external applications like Butler, Quickeys or Proxi, how can I make custom hotkeys? ie: open a specific application when I press cmd-ctrl-1?
You will need a scripting addition if you want this to be possible.
plain AppleScript is not able to do this
oh ok, thanks guys… any idea where I can get one of these “additions”?
You can find scripting additions here.
Although I have to say, Spark is probably the best hotkey app I’ve evern come across. You can assign hotkeys for AppleScripts, controlling iTunes, activating menu items, opening documents/applications, and more. Any hotkey you assign can be for all applications, or just a specific one.
And the daemon (the background process that keeps track of hotkey usage) usually uses around 5 MB of memory. That’s pretty small, considering the 40+ hotkeys I manage in Spark.
