Deleting Mail Attachments

For some time with a lot of help from a fellow member Craig (he has written most of it) I have been trying to develop a script that will move mail messages and attachments to my folders under Documents. It is nearly there but I have a problem with attachments some times and I do mean some out of a test file of ten email messages with attachments 5 of them had the problem and I cannot determine what is common between them. I can always save the attachments in the appropriate folder but on occasions Icannot extract the message itself .

Therefore what I need to be able to do is delete the attachments then save the message. I have checked if I do delete the attachment my script will save the message. I know that one can delete attachments form the menu bar “Message/Remove attachments” but cannot figure out how to script that. Can any one help please.

There is that option in the rules for most mail programs. Perhaps you could use a combination of the ‘remove attachment’ rule option and the ‘run applescript’ rule option to achieve what you want.

Thanks for that suggestion, I will try it and post result. I am using Apple Mail.

Apple Mail does not have as one of its options under rules “remove attachments” so unfortunately that suggestion will not work thanks anyway.
