Development vs. Runtime Inconsistencies

When I run the following script in Script Editor, the result is what I’d expect but when saved as an applet and run from the Finder, I get a different result. Is this a known bug? It’s causing me great difficulties because I am trying to set some properties in my script that are Finder constants. When run from SE, no problem. When the app is saved and run on it’s own, the Finder is returning the codes and the script doesn’t know how to deal with them. Help!

property icon_arrangement : arranged by name
end using terms from

tell application “Finder”
activate
display dialog (icon_arrangement as string)
end tell
–run from Script Editor, → Finder activates and dialog displays “arranged by name”
–saved as app and run from Finder → Finder activates and dialog displays “«constant earrnama»”

This problem was mentioned somewhere recently (maybe here) and I think that the general consensus was that it’s a bug. FYI, I see the same results in OS X 10.2.6.
