Differences of "User Prompt" from 9 to X

I wrote a script that involves Quicktime and the Finder. In OS X you can switch between applications during the user prompt. At the prompt “Name file:” I can click on an open Quicktime window, scroll through its contents, still see the prompt, click back to the user prompt, and enter a name.
When the name prompt comes up in 9, the screen freezes to that prompt until I return a button.
:?: Can you not switch between Apps during a prompt in 9?

No, you can’t. Dialogs and other panels in OS 7/8/9 won’t let you leave until you give them an answer or dismiss them…

Curses!!!
Oh well, I’ll just have to set The Script to the frontmost process right before the prompt. That brings the prompt up without selecting the app.
