Editing Adobe Illustrator CS2 metadata....

Is it possible to add metadata to an illustrator cs2 file?

The only way that I can see now as a possibility is… Have the script save the Illustrator file as an SVG file, then open the SVG file in TextEdit, have the script find exactly where the data is inside that file, replace or add the information that’s needed, and finally save that file and open it in illustrator and save it again as the actual file type that I need.

That would be one heck of a work around if that is what I have to do… Is that what I have to do?

Hi Brad

Is this so you can search for the file at a later date. or for some other reason…
You could add some data to the files comment box in the finder when you get info this would be searchable under spotlight or when you create a new illustrator doc you can specify {note:“blah”}which might be searchable not sure about that but you would be able to extract it i guess!

You can add metadata to illustrator files through bridge. What fields are you wanting to fill? You can try this if you are just wanting generic fields filled. Create new Photoshop file go to file info fill in all the fields that you want leaving document title field blank save as template. You will now have access to this in bridge where you can select files and append metadata. This will add the new fields without touching the title.

There are only a few fields that I need to utilize. I really feel that what the fields are is arbitrary, and honestly, I don’t have them in front of me right now. Bridge also has no dictionary for applescript, so how would I use it?

The saved template is very simple to apply through the GUI just point bridge to a folder select all the images or you can sort the folder contents in many ways including manual and apply to selection through tools in menubar. Bridge is scriptable but only through JavaScript.
