The last problem is that I haven’t got the right incantation, to get BBEdit to deliver text separated by linefeeds, so I had to massage the lines into linefeeed separated lines, as awk doesn’t reckognize return as an end of line marker, therefore awk just saw one line.

This is an interesting article by Dr. Drang wherein he seems to be solving a similar issue using a bash script to handle the conversion of line endings:

Thanks for the link, unfortunately, that doesn’t bring us any closer, maybe we could have outflanked the problem by issuing a unix filter command or something, but I think, based on the information of your link, that it can’t be done any better than it is.
