Folder Action over a network to convert files to pdfs

Hi Guys,
I currently work at an ad agency and one of the biggest pains in our days is creating numerous pdfs from all file types. I recently looked into folder actions and noticed that OSX 10.3 (the operating system we use here) has a folder action to convert postcript files to pdfs. So heres what I want to do and I would like to know if you guys can help out at all or lead me to some help. I want to be able to create a single folder on our network in which myself and my co-workers can drag files into and create pdfs. The following files types are the ones I’m interested in being able to convert: .ps, .eps, .jpg, .tif, .ai. I know that the current applescript I’m using only accepts .ps and .eps file types. What I need to know is if there is a way to modify this apple script to accept the other files types or if there is a way to nest a new folder or script that will conver the other files types to an acceptable file type before using the current applescript to create it into a pdf…is that confusing enough for you? Does anyone know of a way to do this or is it even possible?

Thanks for any help,
Josh

Where are you with this issue? Still looking for help?

You should look into ImageMagick - it’s a little complicated - but it’s (open-source) ie: Free - and can convert hundreds of file types. If you want industrial strength - there really isn’t a better package in my opinion.

http://www.imagemagick.org

The easiest way to install it on a Mac is from http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/welcome.html#imagemagick

ImageMagick has only a command line interface - but you can use it from the shell - and/or PHP. The learning curve is pretty steep though.
