Folder actions

Hello,

today i’ll post an old question, on which i never got a clear reponse:
there are probably behavour differences between a workstation and a laptop, i mean in resources, not in software components; said this i’ll explain my problem.

Indifferentely if on panther, tiger and now on leo too, the folder action continues to have a annoyingly collateral effect, consisting in a repetitive pulsate, when items are added, deleted, ect. from a assigned folder. During this pulse effect the “Finder” becomes useless, until every item are processed and this can take a while if the amout of items are consistent. (i speak about folder actions)

Is there a plist entry for modificate to prevent this behavour or else?
To be honest, i’ve no more feeling and desire to use folder actions. But nevertheless, this thing tweaks me.

I’m not sure, but it seems to me there are two possibilities. One is that the Finder is occupied because it’s a Folder Action, in which case you need to wait for Apple to incorporate more multithreading into the Finder. The other is that because Folder Actions work on folders, they tend to be written with Finder tell blocks, which occupy the Finder. Reducing the size of these blocks to only the code that actually requires them may help.

Hey, cwtnospam
your comment confirms my that the “Finder” is unluckily an -forgotten- application. It does work, but this app could be designed much better; four years ago, as example, every new created applescript was still a plugin for it.
