How to assign functions to keys

Hi - real newbie here, so please excuse if this is really obvious. My daughter has been given a clamshell ibook and she loves it. Problem is, four of the keys on the keyboard don’t work (i,k,8 and the comma). I’m wondering if I could write an Applescript to get four of the other - lesser used keys, or even the F keys - to fill in for these keys.

Any help greatly appreciated

cheers

Hi,

you need anyway a third party tool to assign a shortcut to a script or remap keys.
For example QuicKeys can do all these things

You may edit the keyboard keymap file.

Thanks to those who’ve replied to this topic. Quick Keys looks a mite too expensive, so I’d be grateful Yvan if you can tell me how to edit the keyboard keymap file.

all best wishes

Hey tribe

I use Spark for exactly this thingie.

It’s just perfect, as you can assign Shortcuts to programmes, script, iTunes, …

PLUS: it’s free

You can find it here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14352/spark

Thanks iprecious - I’ll give this a try straight away.
