How to disable the startup sound.

Does anyone know how to disable the startup sound that one hears when first booting up (it happens within 2-3 seconds of pressing the power buttton).

Update: I have designed a applescript that turns the sound to 0 and then shutdown. Thanks to all who have read this post.

Not really an applescript topic but, I have found that if I have my computer sound muted when I shut down, the sound will not be audible on startup.
