I often need to take some portions of the screen both on Tiger and Snow.
I can do the standard command - Shift -4 but this only saves to the desktop and it requires living the app finding the image, renaming it and putting wherever it needs to go.
On tiger GRAB is not scriptable. There is no way to set the pref to open directly with "Grab selection"Option.
Actually I like grab as it returns the result and allows to repeat the operation is something went wrong and allows saving to the folder of choice.
Is there a Gui Scripting system to do so?
Such use using comand ctrl 4 which sends to clipboard
automaqtically open preview after the selection
the use preview normally (to name and save the image or repeat the whome thing)
