I could use some help

Hey,
I’m new to applescript (watched training videos for 5 hours today) and I get the idea of it but still am limited until I can begin to learn the commands and stuff for the different apps. I have a question though. I am in charge of all of the macs on a university that I attend. Almost all of the macs use a bluetooth mouse and I frequently have people freaking out because the mouse “doesn’t work.” Every time it is just that the battery is dead.

So I was thinking, it would amazing if I could create a script triggered by System Preferences (or another app if you can think of a better free one for this job) that would e-mail me when a bluetooth battery was low. Let me know what you guys think. The more I think about it the more I wonder if this is even a good job for applescript or if I should be learning some other code. I’d love to hear your feedback. Thanks.

Nick

For something like this you should consult System Preferences’ dictionary, which you get by dragging it’s icon in Finder to Script Editor’s. This will show you all the commands and what they do.

hey,
thanks for the response. I have been looking through the dictionary already though. I am probably just not used to the lingo yet. I got as far as getting a script that will open the keyboard and mouse pane, but could not figure out how to select the Bluetooth tab. I then realized that getting to the correct window was not necessary, I only need sys pref to trigger a mail script, but I have no idea how to get system pref to do that. I think I would be able to do it if I could just find out where the charge of the batteries is stored in leopard. I could just create an if then script montitoring the charge. But I can not find that either. Sorry, I guess I am just in over my head on this project.
