Icon creation...

I know this is not really an ASOC-specific question, but what software do you use to create icons? I don’t have Photoshop so Icon Factory is out of the question. I have some toolbar items that I’d like to create some custom icons for but I haven’t been able to find any icon creation software that works with Lion. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Brad

Produce or find the picture you want as your icon and then use img2icns to convert it to a .icns file.

Brad,

I use a program called Pixen which I downloaded off the web for free. It’s good for doing pixel by pixel drawing, so it’s especially good for small icons. After drawing what you want, you then use img2icns to convert it to an icon file.

Thanks for the info guys, Pixen sounds like it’s just what I’m looking for. I knew about img2icns but didn’t know of a way to create the images. Now I have a possibility.

Thanks,
Brad

I downloaded Pixen but it crashes when I try to start a new image. It gets as far as displaying the window and asking if I want to use the default size. Sometimes it will wait until I click OK and then crash, sometimes it displays the window for a moment and then crashes. Bummer. Maybe I’m not suppose to create icons.

Pixelmator is cheap and good (or so I hear). Acorn seems halfway OK to use also.
