Illustrator CS2 and changing text frame widths

Does any one know how to change the width or height of a Text Frame in Illustrator without scaling the text within it.

I have a very long applescript that converts legacy files from as far back as Freehand 3 files into Illustrator CS2 format. However as a result of the relatively recent change in how the font engine used in CS apps work old files tend to convert with a lot of text overflow symbols. I am trying to loop through every text frame in the document and increase its width by 2 and increase its height by 6. The idea being that the frame would then be big enough to house its contents without the overflow.

Unfortunately all my script is doing is scaling the text frame to the new dimensions - making the font larger.

Is it a simple thing I am missing or is it not possible?
