I at the IT Director for a local newspaper and I have been asked to develop an applescript that would open an Indesign CS4 document and import the daily comic strips into the page. The comics are tiff files. The comics files have a 3 or four character abbrevation of their name and a four digit date
such as abc0715. The indesign page has predefined boxes for each comic.
Hi. I don’t mean to be unhelpful, but it’s clear from the question that your code request is for a project with a direct commercial application for your employer. As you haven’t provided code to evaluate, but are seeking help, it would be fair to remunerate the individual who helps your paper customize a solution. You can receive bids by posting the assignment to MacFreelancer.
As an unemployed graphic designer and AppleScript enthusiast I would have to agree with Marc. There are other benefits of hiring someone with knowledge and experience as well, from setting up a work flow to maximize productivity to knowing how to set up the base template so that the script will work correctly not to mention saving your valuable time trying to learn a new programing environment when you probably have more pressing matters getting in the way daily. Another reason to work directly with someone rather than just posting on the boards for a solution is that you need it to work with the InDesign documents, so for the best solution these need to be set up correctly so that ID can address the correct part of the document. Finally something that you probably will not get from a board and may not think about when creating the script solution is error checking and the user interaction. From my experience this takes as much or more time to work into a good solution than the actual scripting functions.
Thanks for the comments. If my company would be willing to spend the money I would never have attempted this myself. However they are not so I stuck with a project I never wanted and honestly don’t know much about. Looks like I have a lot of reading ahead of me.
