Is DVD Studio Pro 2 scriptable?

I’ve got a question for whoever can answer it. Is DVD Studio Pro 2 scriptable? We’re looking to automate DVD production, but I’m not sure if it will work with DVD Studio Pro. I know that there’s no dictionary for it, but I was able to run some basic script commands with it like open and quit, stuff that seems like all applications would recognize. So, if it won’t be wise to use DVD Studio Pro, what other products are there that would be good? Thank you for any info you can provide.

I am not familiar with the application but you can test its scriptability very easily.

(1) Open Script Editor
(2) In the “File” menu select “Open Dictionary”
(3) Navigate to the DVD Studio Pro application and select it
(4) Click “Open”

Script Editor will return an error saying “Could not open the application’s dictionary because it is not scriptable”. You said that it does not have a dictionary and, unfortunately, that means that it is not scriptable.

Apple requires that ALL applications support the ‘Open’, ‘Close’, and ‘Quit’ commands at the very minimum.

Thank you for the info. I was afraid of that, I just wanted to make sure. Do you know of any products that would be for scripting DVD production?

Perhaps you can try UI Scripting… Take a look here:

And, if you feel comfortable with the command-line, you can study and use lots of products, such as mencoder, mp2enc, mplex, dvdauthor… Take a look at Google.
