Is there a 'freeze' function

I seem to remember back in the days of OS9 when I was scripting Filemaker Pro that i could ‘freeze’ Filemaker so that you couldn’t see it doing it’s calculations until the script had finished.

Was that a Filemaker script thing or an applsescript thing?

It sounds like you are referring to FileMaker’s ability to “Freeze Window”.
