Mac App store rules

Hi guys, a few months ago I wrote ASOC app that works with both Illustrator and Photoshop. Like a lot of ASOC apps, it pretty much works as a remote control to extend the capabilities of Illustrator and Photoshop.

I’d like to commercialise it via the app store. Question is: Do the rules of the app store allow for that sort of application to be sold? On its own, it’s useless, it only works with Photoshop or Illustrator.

As far as I know there is no way for the Mac app store to detect if the user has a certain sets of apps before they buy and download a utility like yours. So you could end up with a lot of frustrated people if this is not clear before they download it. Because there is no refund possible on the app store, at least none that I am aware of.

I also have an application that requires Adobe’s application to be present, but decided to not sell it on the store because of these potential problems. I do have a few other apps that I’d like to try and sell on the store but they are stand alone utilities, no need for any pre-installed apps.

Not sure how this will go, but I’m looking forward to do this experiment and report my findings here on these forums. Will take a few weeks though,
