When someone sends an invitation to an event (.ics extension) Mail has a cool contextual menu item “add to iCal”. I can’t seem to get the general preference of adding invitations to iCal automatically to work so I am looking for a AS solution to do the following:
Mail checks for new mail
If message contains attachment that is an invitation (.ics) then add to “Home” calendar in iCal
What I have so far is:
Mail checks the mail every 15 minutes
Rule set that correctly identifies a message with .ics attachment and can execute a script (used the example mail rule to test and I got the dialog box)
Now I am stuck… I can’t figure out how to get the attachment into iCal.
I was thinking of a couple different routes but the easiest would be to use the “add to iCal” contextual menu option. If that doesn’t work I was thinking of saving to a folder and attaching a folder action to the folder that would send the invite to iCal
Any ideas?
