Microsoft Office Dictionaries Don't Open

I can’t seem to get the dictionaries for MS Office 2004 apps to open when I try to open them from the SE File/Open Dictionary…

This was working on Office X. Is anyone experiencing a similar difficulty?

I’m using ALBook, 17", 1.33GHz.

Rob

Xtools doesn’t seem to be able to launch the MS dictionaries either.

Hi Rob, have you tried dragging and dropping the MS Office 2004 app icons onto the Script Editor’s icon? That’s the sure way of being able to open an applications dictionary. I went ahead and downloaded the demo and it does open the dictionaries via drag and drop.

Simply stated, just drag and drop any applications icon onto the Script Editor’s icon (Script Editor can be in the dock) and if it is scriptable, it should open that applications dictionary. If an app is not scriptable, you should get a dialog saying so…

Unable to read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable.

Hope that helps…

Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for me either.

I also added the Office 2004 apps to the Library list in the Window menu and tried opening them that way. No avail.

I figured it out. As it turned out, SE wouldn’t open any dictionary, so that told me that a system error was likely the culprit. I ran Mac Sweeper 3.0’s utilities, and that seems to have repaired the problem.

Sorry to have caused any concern.

Wow, thanks for updating us. We’ll keep this thread in mind should another Scripter have a similar problem.
