Can Any One Help Me Please.
I Spend A Lot Of Time Looking For Large Amounts Of Files On Verious Severs. Is There Anyway Of Just Copy And Pasteing The Data To Find Into Applescript Which Then Copies Them To My Desktop.
Rather Than Doing A Finder For Each File.
Tried To Type In File Name In Finder Seperated By And And Or Or “” But Doesn’t Work.
Do we understand that you want to highlight or copy some text in a document and then find all other files that contain the same text?
Sorry what I mean is, im searching for names of folders on our servers currently using the basic finder, typing the folder name i’m searching for one at a time. which is takeing ages, waiting for the result to come back and the copying the folder to my desktop, then typing in my next folder name to search for waiting for that to be found and the copying that to my desktop.
i tried typing in folder names sepurated by “” or AND OR and the another folder name, but no joy
I work for a greeting card company and part of my job is collateing card designs onto a dvd to be sent to print.
designs are kept on to x-servers. each cards design is in its own folder named with a design number example 153127-0-1_55822
153127-0-1 which is the item number
and 55822 which is the bin number
Im not botherd about what the information in the contents of each folder, just the folder name to find.
I’m provided with a text document with a list designs i need to find, rather than typing them in individually into my finder i’d like to just copy and paste the text document in to a script
I hope you understand… sorry if my description rubbish.
So the process you want breaks down as follows:
- Read an electronic document into the script. (Is it plain text or an email?) Alternatively, from the clipboard (easier) after you have copied them all (assuming a list of some sort) from the original text.
- Find and extract a list of folder names from all of the included text somehow unless it is just the folder names separated by a character, tab or return.
- Use the Finder (or other means) to seach servers whose names are known which are already connected (that show in the Finder’s side panel).
- Duplicate each folder found on a server to your desktop.
Is that it in a nutshell? What have you done so far with a script?
Yes this is is correct.
Copying a list from the clipboard and pasted in a script sepurated by a character would be best for me.
finding the folders in the list through connected servers
and then copying them to my desktop.
the bad news is i have no experiance with scripting
although i do understand the basic idea of it.
