I’m sorry for the off topic post, but there is no section specifically for this type of post.
For the first time I am finally going to WWDC!!! I’m just curious who here is going.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled scripting.

There may be a reason for that. Perhaps this would be better-suited to another forum.
/sigh
Terribly sorry to have wasted your time Mikey, but I did put “Off Topic” in the thread title. I just thought a MacScripter meet up might be fun in San Fran if any members were going. Anyways could a mod delete please, don’t want to ruffle any feathers.
“Sigh” all you like, but the point was that it’s unhelpful to pepper banter throughout technical discussion areas. Have you ever used, say, the cocoa-dev list? The general rule is that if you have to put “OT” in your message subject, it should go somewhere else instead.
Request a “misc” area, but don’t add noise to the technical area. Imagine if there were lots of off-topic threads here. Ack.
Lots of forums have a place for off-topic conversation, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to have one here. Agreed?
I am more than familiar with forum etiquette and generally would not make a post to this effect.
Etiquette would also state though to not say anything if you don’t have something nice to say.
Fact is right or wrong I made the post (the very first sticked thread in this area is a off topic bump your post count thread btw) and despite many mods having been on and through this area you were the only one to comment on it.
I will suggest to Ray an Off-Topic or semi-related area, but in the mean time I apologize if I upset you with this post. I still stand by the thought though that if you weren’t interested you should have just passed on by.
It’s not an issue of being upset. Why do you assume that?
“Move on by” isn’t quite appropriate. Maybe if there were only one OT post ever, sure. But imagine what happens when multiple people start posting off-topic threads in a programming forum. When you’re trying to find a solution to a problem, the more noise you have to sift through, the worse the experience and the harder it is to research or solve your problem.
It’s not a chatter forum, it’s a programming help forum. The solution is either to take it elsewhere or have a random banter area that can keep these kinds of threads separate from the technical discussions. If you don’t like that response, fine, but it’s the truth. Again, look at other discussion contexts: Apple development mailing list moderators are strict about keeping off-topic thnigs out of the lists, and forums like Mac OS X Hints’s forums have off-topic areas (Mac OS X Hints has “The Coat Room” for non-technical threads, for example).
I am more than familiar with forum etiquette and generally would not make a post to this effect.
Then surely you understand what I’m saying and why I’m saying it.
I completely understand why you are saying it, but what I’m saying is there was no need to say it in the first place. I will agree this was not the area for it, but it’s not grossely off topic either.I was referring to the developer’s conference (for programmers/scripters/IT professionals) not a local CUG.
I simply think that spam/off-topic conversations not being the norm around here that if someone were to take issue and comment, then it should be an admin/moderator.
James,
I’ll be making my first trek to WWDC as well. Good times.
Mark

Better yet, PM each other. Arguing about it is at least as OT as the original (and unoffensive) question was.
