Hi… a simple question, I hope.
Is an AppleScript app bundle created on a PPC only machine (on 10.4.3) equivalent to a ‘Universal’ app bundle created on an Intel machine? Or is there some other preparation required to make it Universal?
Thanks for any replies.
Peter B.
Hi Peter,
if “Universal” is displayed in the Finder information window, then it is.
Thanks, Stefan…
The point is, I don’t have an Intel machine to look and see… and I’m still in doubt about the answer.
I’m hoping (maybe) to distribute a modest AS app (from a PPC machine) soon, and just curious what an Intel user would ‘get’ - Universal, or something that runs under Rosetta?
An existing example similar to what I have in mind can be found here:

No need to run the app, but results of a ‘get info’ would be of interest.

Unfortunately both apps are PPC only, so I think, you need at least OS 10.4.4
to compile application bundles as Universal
Stefan:
Thank you very much for going to the trouble… now I know.
I purchased one of the last available PPC PowerBooks last fall (to ‘preserve’ Classic), and may not upgrade to Intel for some while, but when 10.4 is finalized (soon, if not now), I will likely update. Being on dialup, it’s not always so easy to stay current.
Thanks again.
