Hey all,
I’m trying to create a script that will allow me to export QuickTime movies from a selected folder to a Windows Media files through QuickTime. QuickTime does a great job of it now, but I’ve got a fairly large number of videos and I’d like to avoid having to export and save one at a time.
I’ve found some script examples here like the one below, but can’t find the right tags for WMV’s. I’m wondering if anyone knows the proper script, or how to change the script below to help me out. Any suggestions?
Hello mhjames99, and welcome to our forum.
I’ve been looking into this myself for a project I’m working on. Unfortunately, I don’t think formats provided by third-party components (such as WMV thru Flip4Mac) can be accessed through AppleScript.
Forgive me if this is a silly idea (it took me longer to post than it did to try it, so I can’t claim that it was well considered) - it seems as though it would be faster to batch change the extensions.
I have QuickTime Pro and Flip4Mac, but as an experiment I selected a short .avi clip in Finder and changed the extension to .WMV, clicked “Use .WMV” when I got the warning that the file might open in a different application, then used VLC because, unlike a .WMV exported with Quicktime, it wouldn’t open in QuickTime after changing the extension.
I didn’t go as far as trying to script the change. Am I way off base?
