Say Command Sample Rate

When using the “say” command to “speak” text to a file, is it possible to adjust the sample rate from the default 22.06 KHz to CD 44.1 KHz?

AppleScript: 1.10.3
Browser: Firefox 1.5.0.1
Operating System: Mac OS X (10.4)

Hi,

You can’t do that with just the ‘say’ command, but need to convert it with something else. Why would you want to do this?

gl,

My son is doing some Podcasts for school. He uses GarageBand to put it all together. I wrote an application that takes whatever text file he places into it and uses the selected system voice to create an aiff file that can be loaded into GarageBand. Unlike QuickTime or iTunes, however, GarageBand, apparently, demands CD format 44.1 KHz sample rates. Files saved from the “say” command play back in GarageBand at double speed. I can manually convert the rate with Peak but am looking for an automated method. Perhaps there is a shell-based application that will do this.
