Script Debugger 4 Goes Beta

At long last, I’m ready to begin beta testing Script Debugger 4.0.

After more than 10 years (Script Debugger 1.0 was released 1994) and support for Mac OS 7, 8, 9 and X, it was time to modernize Script Debugger and fully support AppleScript under Mac OS X. Script Debugger 4 is a complete rewrite, using Apple’s Cocoa application frameworks that takes full advantage of Mac OS X.

BETA Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Mac OS X 10.4
  • PowerMac G4 or G5
  • A valid Script Debugger 3 registration number
  • Willingness to enter into a Nondisclosure Agreement
  • Willingness to spend hours telling me what needs to be added or changed

IMPORTANT Due to crashing bugs in AppleScript and/or Cocoa under Mac OS X 10.4, Script Debugger 4 is not scriptable. Scripting support will be re-introduced once Apple resolves these problems.

This Is BETA Software

While I have endeavored to bring Script Debugger 4 as close as possible to a finished state for the first beta release, it is still a work in progress. Do not use Script Debugger 4 for production work. Expect some problems. There is presently no user documentation. Some features are missing or incomplete. Finally, features may change (or be removed) in the final version of the software.

Procedure

I’m going to accept the first 20 applications initially. As beta testing progresses, I’ll accept additional testers.

Email me with your contact information and Script Debugger 3 registration number. I’ll send you the Nondisclosure Agreement in PDF format. You must then print and sign the Nondisclosure Agreement and Fax it back to me.

Once these steps have been taken, you will receive download information.
