Scripting Reference Guide?

I currently work at a graduate university and have been working for a couple of weeks on trying to learn how to use AppleScript. We have a Mac lab that has 29 computers in it and we are in the process of upgrading the lab from old PowerPCs to new G4s. With moving off of the old OS 9.1 and onto OS X we evidently are going to have to upgrade our login script. If I try to run it and recomplie it, the script just errors out over and over and over again. Is there a way to convert the old script easily to the new scripting? Currently the lab computers have a script that interfaces with Dave and forces you to login to our NT domain and then mount volumes based on their username. I know enough about Macs to get me by and so far I’m learning the scripting language slowly but surely, but I would like to have some sort of good reference book. Thursby’s Dave came with relatively no documentation and the AppleScript for Dummies book that was here when I started working here doesn’t even cover mounting volumes let alone much of the other indepth programming. Is there a good reference book out there that’s current? I looked on Amazon.com but figured this forum would allow me to get advice on where to go from the real experts. Thanks for all your help.
