Hi
I was recently lucky to have another member, Jacques, create a magnificent application for me that makes the process of sorting images taken on a digital camera, a piece of cake. In this age of 4Gb CF cards and high speed modes, there is a tendency to take WAY too many photos. This makes the task of having to sort the good from the bad even more arduous, as there are simply so many images to view. Enter Jacques’ wonderful app…
What this app does is this:
- Opens all ‘dropped’ images in Preview, and displays a floating dialog box that has each image’s name, alongside check box options to delete or keep the image.
- Once the images have been viewed and the boxes checked, the app deletes and keeps the appropriate images, and even imports the JPEG versions into iPhoto - into an album/Library of your choice.
- It then (you’re also given a choice on this) deletes the original JPEGs (now that the originals are stored by iPhoto) and moves any retained RAW files into a folder labeled by the date on which the images were taken.
Not only does it do all that, however you get choices on which versions of the image to keep. This will only be useful for people who record in both RAW and JPEG (as I do), however it is very useful. For good images that I want to keep, I just tick the ‘Keep JPEG’ box. For wicked images that I want to keep, and possibly work on the RAW version, I tick the ‘Keep JPEG and RAW’ box. For images that I don’t want at all, I check the ‘delete’ box.
All that you need to do is to get the images out of the camera (I use Image Capture) and then drop the folder containing the downloaded images onto the app’s icon, and away it goes. It’s completely awesome, and saves me so much time, and greatly reduces the chance that I’ll make an error when jotting down on paper the names of images to keep.
I don’t know how to make the app available here, as it’s not a straight AppleScript. If anyone can tell me how I can make it available for download, please let me know. The best solution I have at the moment is that if people reply to this post and provide their email address, I can email it to them. I hope this doesn’t breach forum rules?! The app is 72K compressed.
Finally, I would thank to say a huge thanks to Jacques, the app’s author - he was so helpful and persistent and was happy to amend and alter the app numerous times as we refined it. I have his approval to distribute the app - he’s just glad that could be of use to others too.
