An If action may return an unexpected result, and this can arise from the difference between what might generically be referred to as an empty value and no value. This will be encountered when testing for all sorts of conditions, but I will use a Text action to demonstrate.
The following is a test for an empty value and will always return Text has a value. The reason is that an empty string is a value. If I understand correctly, this might be considered similar to AppleScript’s missing value constant.
The following is a test for no value and will return a response that depends on whether the Text action contains characters or not. In this example, Text has no value will be returned.
It’s often not clear whether an empty value or no value applies in a particular circumstance, but simple testing will clarify matters. The following approach should work in almost all circumstances and could also be used for temporary troubleshooting purposes.
