UPC to get info from online source

So is it possible to create a script that would on input of a UPC/ISBN code go search for from Amazon or GOogle? Then record that data on a text file? I want to use a plug and play barcode scanner, scan CDs and books, gather the above info and keep a running text file of the data for inventory purposes. Any help would be appreciated!

This software uses a built-in iSight as a barcode scanner and can send the result to an AppleScript. Looks promising:
