Using AppleScript to write to an existing property list file?

I’d like to create an install that updates an application.

I think I can work out how to install the necessary files using PackageManager but I’d also like to update an existing .plist file.

Would I update the property list file using AppleScript and run the script during the installation? If so can somebody please point me in the right direction as I’ve never used AppleScript.

Thanks very much.

Model: MacBook Pro

Operating System: Mac OS X (10.4)

Moved to OS X

I would think you’d be able to update the plist by using the defaults command-line tool in a postflight shell script…

Thanks very much for the reply.

I’m extremely new to this. Could you ellaborate?

Thanks again.

Actually I see what you mean now. Yes, this is what I want. I found this http://lists.apple.com/archives/Applescript-implementors/2007/Feb/msg00016.html which is what I want to do. The problem is that I’ve never used AppleScript before so I need pointing to somewhere where I can learn how to use AppleScript to write to a property list file. The example shown in the topic is above my head at the moment.

Thanks.
